I'd seen these two children before in Cebu City, sleeping on the sidewalk in the middle of the day, near where Arvin sleeps & hangs out (Kevin Weir's been buying Arvin meals & slippers while he's been here; Arvin's images in posts below)

I was having coffee outside last week while I was in Cebu, and Lovely & her baby brother walked by begging for money, and since I don't give money and I told her the same in Visayan.

I left my table and told them to both stay there, and that I'd get them something to eat - and I went up the street to a local store that had fresh local Filipino dishes daily, and ordered 2 fish, 3 rice and a porkchop for take out (to-go)

I walked back to them, gave them the food (they didn't eat it immediately; they were very shy about eating in front of me - strange when they seemed so aggressive asking for money) and I knelt down beside them and asked their names and where they were from, etc.

I didn't have my Olympus E-1 with me, but I did have my phone which has a 2MP camera, and I'm glad I had that with me.

Lovely told me she's 15 years old and I was shocked...she's so small for that age, and she told me in passable English that her 2 year old baby brother's name was JR, and that there are 12 children in her Family, and that they both sleep on the street as no one looks after them.

I noticed JR's scalp was shaved clean, and Lovely sat there with a piece of glass and carefully scraped her brother's head clean, most likely to prevent insects & lice.

Only after that did they open the take out package and eat their breakfast right there on the sidewalk.

Good Sunday morning to you all,
PJAMES
